Shrewsbury Children's Book Award

The Award Ceremony, Theatre Severn

On Friday, 30th April, over 450 children from schools across Shropshire came together at Theatre Severn to celebrate the Shrewsbury Children's Book Award. Children had been asked to vote on the shortlist of 6 titles.  This was the first award of its kind for children across Shropshire.

How did we choose the Shortlist?

Groups of children from 6 local primary schools read and commented on a list of nearly 50 titles nominated for the Award by ten of the major children’s publishers.  Using their comments, the Book Award Steering Group – which includes the LEA’s Primary Schools Improvement Consultant in English, a primary school literacy coordinator, representatives from library services, a local author, a local bookseller and representatives from Bookfest – drew up a Shortlist of the best 6 title

.... It was a time for fun and laughter for all

The performance poet and author, Andrew Fusek Peters entertained the audience with extracts from his poetry and fiction

Prizes were awarded to children who had written outstanding Book Reviews

Well done everyone....
