CATHERINE COOPER
Biography
Born in Wellington, Shropshire, Catherine Cooper was a primary school teacher for 29 years before retiring and deciding she’d love to write for children. Her love of history, myths, legends and the Shropshire countryside gave her the ideal grounding to write an extraordinary magical fantasy adventure. All the locations are real, and there is lots of history and hidden Shropshire myths and legends in the books, too. Catherine illustrates her own books, and her husband draws the maps. In 2010 Catherine won two Brit Writers Awards for her children’s book The Golden Acorn – a captivating, magical fantasy adventure. The award had attracted 21,000 entries across its 8 categories. This year she has signed a contract with a Hollywood film company for The Golden Acorn.
Event synopsis
Catherine knows children love humour and a good adventure. Her books can be read at two levels – for pure enjoyment and for those who like finding out more. She presents three story-telling sessions and a competition. Catherine brings in a life-sized papier-mâché model of the grumpy, food-loving and mischievous raven, Camelin, who is her most popular character and has quite a fan club of his own. She also brings in costumes, a variety of props and covers the Who, Where, Why, What and When of story writing; she also covers character development. Catherine is happy to answer questions.
Catherine Cooper will be visiting Radbrook Primary on
Monday 12th March and St George’s Junior School on Wednesday 14th March.
