PETER CHAND
Biography
Peter has been telling stories since 1999, and has entertained audiences all over Britain and further with his tales from the Indian Subcontinent. His parents migrated to Britain from the Punjab region in the 1950s and, though he was born in the Midlands, Peter grew up using Punjabi as his first language. He combines these two cultures seamlessly to tell stories full of life, wisdom and humour. He has performed on Radio 4 and many local radio stations, and the Festival at the Edge at Much Wenlock. He is constantly in demand as a storyteller with a keen wit and understanding of stories from his heritage.
Event synopsis
Events involve a mixture of stories from the Punjab, dancing and drumming. Workshops are designed to encourage smaller groups of pupils to tell their own stories. Peter’s performances are energetic, totally engaging and always told with warmth and great knowledge. He helps pupils and staff develop a better understanding and appreciation of a different culture. In areas with a high percentage of Asian pupils, he includes key Punjabi phrases and words with which the children will be familiar. He can help pupils create and tell their own stories, covering performance techniques such as Use of Voice, Movement, Gesture, and Making the Story Your Own. He can create stories around a school’s chosen theme.
Peter Chand will be visiting Albrighton Primary on Thursday 15th March.
