SHREWSBURY MAY BOOKFEST

30th April - 3rd May 2010

THIS YEAR'S MAY BOOKFEST WAS OUR BIGGEST AND MOST EXCITING FESTIVAL EVER, WITH A WONDERFUL LINE-UP OF AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS!

Axel Scheffler, illustrator of some of the best-loved titles for young children today, held his audience spellbound as his wonderful characters appeared before their very eyes...

... and a certain creature from the Deep Dark Wood even jumped down from the drawing board and marched straight through the middle of Shrewsbury to St Alkmund's Church!

Philip Ardagh packed facts, fun and frolics into his Henry's House Roadshow.

And the mad, bad and dangerously funny Andy Stanton had his audience rolling in the aisles.

We went from ubercool, sophisticated teen authors Sophie McKenzie and Chris Higgins...

... and Gap Year adventures in Belize with Pauline Fisk...

... to fun and games with Thomas the Tank Engine.

We journeyed through the imaginations of Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell - from Muddle Earth... to the Edge Chronicles... to Wyrmeweald, their exciting new fantasy series.

13-year-old Elliott Edwards was so inspired by Paul and Chris when they first came to Shrewsbury Bookfest four years ago, that he has based his GCSE art project on their work.

Michelle Paver whisked us back in time as she brought the world of Torak and the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness vividly to life, with fascinating tales of living in the wild.

And Lauren St John whisked us to the plains of Africa for animal adventures.

Sarah Dyer wowed her young audience and helped them create a wonderful collage of the Girl with the Bird's-Nest Hair.

Brave and valiant warriors joined Aduro in his Beast Quest to break Malvel's evil spell.

And to round off our Festival in style, Blunderbus Theatre Company swept us up in a magical musical adventure with Elmer the Elephant
