Think Like a Pony
Young pony-lovers were treated to a real
masterclass at Berriewood Riding Centre, Condover on Sunday 3
May. Lynn Henry's passion and enthusiasm for helping children to
understand how their ponies are feeling, what they're thinking
and what they're trying to say shone through. With the help of
young volunteers Isabelle Moeller and Rhiannon Corke and
Berriewood ponies Merrywether and Harry, Lynn explained what the
little signals and sounds ponies make really mean.
The audience watched in fascination as
she demonstrated how the mother of a new foal gently teaches its
offspring what she wants him to do. And within minutes, Lynn had
both Merrywether and Harry following her, stopping and walking
backwards as soon as she gave the signal they would remember
from their earliest days – clearly recognising her as a human
who spoke their language! Isabelle and Rhiannon quickly learnt
how to give those signals too, and Merrywether and Harry happily
followed them around the riding centre, doing whatever was asked
of them. Picture Gallery - Click on the picture for larger version
