The top winners from the 2021 creative writing competition have had their stories brought to life by way of a filmed narration for everyone to enjoy.

So now please sit back and enjoy watching and listening to these beautiful stories that have been written by some very talented young people across Shropshire…

KEY STAGE 1:

FIRST PLACE

Ryan’s Winter Side by Rhea Cross from Whixall C/E Primary School

Judges’ Comment:

“Beautifully laid out, illustrations, simple but effective story line and message.”

“A cleverly written story, very well thought out from beginning to end.  A great read, a real page turner and wonderfully illustrated and presented by Rhea.  She should be very proud of her work.”

SECOND PLACE

Perfectly Meika by Meika Scott from Greenacres Primary School

Judges’ Comment:

“…loved the idea of the blue coat wrapping around moral to the story, and the clever use of description.”

“A magical story with a lovely message.  A fantastic main character with detailed illustrations.  Clearly Meika has worked very hard on creating her very own book”

THIRD PLACE

Time Travel by Nala from Gobowen Primary School

Judges’ Comment:

“An exciting adventure back in time.  Well planned and structured with characters that came to life on the page.”

“A beautifully presented book with incredible illustrations. Nala has clearly put in many hours of work.”

Ginger Finn & The Three Crabs by Aaron Gibson from Hinstock Primary School

“A brilliant main character, we wanted to read on to find out what happened to Gingerfinn. A lovely story from beginning to end.  Great fun Aaron!”

Ivy Palm & The Secrets of East Stones by Merryn Simms from Clive C/E Primary School

Judges’ Comment:

“A captivating title that drew us into the story.  Original ideas that kept us on the edge of our seats.  Very well written.”

FIRST PLACE

The Ring by Nella Devereaux from Castlefield’s Primary School, Bridgnorth

Judges’ Comment:

“Nella’s writing was incredibly mature and fluent, and this story was very well planned and constructed.  It really did have us turning the pages and trying to guess the ending.  It felt like a ‘real book’ that took us on an emotional journey with the main character.  Very well done Nella; thank you for writing this story for our competition.”

SECOND PLACE 

Badger Girl by Tabitha Bishop from St Winefride’s Convent School Shrewsbury

Judges’ Comment:

“An exciting story from Tabitha with beautiful descriptions and imagery that made us feel that we were a part of the story too.  Very exciting and well paced.  We loved all of the interesting facts and illustrations.  This was a most beautifully presented book. We really appreciate the effort you must have gone to to produce this fantastic piece of work.”

THIRD PLACE

Scroll of Secrets by Fuchsia Tapley  from Cheswardine Primary and Nursery School

Judges’ Comment:

“Fuchsia was clearly inspired by Emma Carroll’s workshop that was delivered to her class and used what she’d learned to produce this atmospheric historical story.  It was a clever idea, well researched and planned with exciting peaks and troughs that took us on a thrilling journey.  Well done Fuchsia.”

Squeky The Mechanic by Monty Watkins from Clive C/E Primary School

Judges’ Comment:

“Monty’s writing style and brilliant illustrations had us captivated from the first page.  We loved the main character!  This story was very well structured with a brilliant ending.  Great work Monty!”

The Sabre’s Whistle by Sabre Mason-Beddows from Rushbury C/E Primary School

“An exciting pirate adventure with many twists and turns.  Wonderfully written with lyrical descriptions.  Fast-paced and an excellent range of characters.  Well done Sabre!”

Bookfest spent an amazing morning yesterday at Gre Bookfest spent an amazing morning yesterday at Greenfields Primary School with Beech, Poplar and Oak classes who with their fantastic teachers have taken the Readers to Writers 2023 project to the maximum by producing some wonderful creative writing. The freedom they've been given to let their imaginations fly is producing results that are taking their teachers by surprise. Good luck everyone and huge congratulations on becoming AUTHORS!
